For green grants, millions matter.
Seven local projects tapped for NEORSD grant funding, $1.5 million will help prevent millions of gallons of stormwater runoff
The Northeast Ohio Regional Sewer District’s Board of Trustees awarded seven grants totaling $1.5 million as part of its long-standing Green Infrastructure Grant Program. When these projects are complete, nearly 3 million additional gallons of stormwater runoff will be kept out of the combined sewer system.
“The Sewer District recognizes the importance of green infrastructure such as bioretention, pervious pavement and other site-based stormwater management practices,” said Director of Watershed Programs Frank Greenland. “We are happy to support these organizations, in partnership with our Member Communities, to bring these projects to fruition and manage stormwater at its source in the combined sewer area.”

Karamu House for the “Karamu House Phase II” project
$244,656 awarded, 205,041 gallons of runoff captured annually
The Board of Park Commissioners of the Cleveland Metropolitan Park District for the “Garfield Boulevard Reconstruction, Trail and Green Infrastructure Project”
$300,000 awarded, 1,199,858 gallons of runoff captured annually
University Circle Incorporated for the “UCI Headquarters Site and Parking Lot” project
$300,000 awarded, 415,736 gallons of runoff captured annually
West Creek Conservancy and The Bay Presbyterian Church for the “Bridge CLE Paver Retrofit Project”
$300,000 awarded, 230,186 gallons of runoff captured annually
Dunham Tavern Museum and Gardens for the “Dunham Tavern Museum and Gardens” project
$287,326 awarded, 109,301 gallons of runoff captured annually
Jordan Community Residential Center for the “The Oasis in the City ‘Serenity Healing Garden’ Mt. Pleasant” project
$38,018 awarded, 744,183 gallons of runoff captured annually
East End Neighborhood House Association for the “EENU Ubuntu Phase III” project
$30,000 awarded, Design-only award

Since the program’s inception in 2014, NEORSD has funded 84 projects for more than $14 million capturing and treating 38.2 million gallons of stormwater annually within the combined sewer system area of Northeast Ohio. The Green Infrastructure Grant Program is open to member communities, governmental entities, non-profit organizations 501(c)(3), or businesses working in partnership with their communities in the combined sewer area interested in implementing green infrastructure projects that remove stormwater from the combined sewer system.
