Service leads to learning for newest intern class

Colleges and universities from across the state are represented in this year’s interns who are helping us move our mission forward.

Hundreds of interns have come to the Sewer District over the years to develop skills, gain work experience, and take a meaningful step along their career path. And each of them, including the current class of 25 students and recent grads, has brought unique talents, fresh energy, and new ideas and perspectives.

Interns teach us as much as we teach them, and they help make the Sewer District more nimble and resilient.

“Everyone at the District finds purpose in their work,” said Delaney Horton, a 2024 graduate of The Ohio State University and current District Administration intern supporting our sustainability efforts. “This genuine passion makes it an incredibly supportive place to be.”

Anthony Giancola, a Technical Services Group intern and student at Kent State University, agreed. “Our community is incredibly supportive, defined by its kindness and eagerness to help one another. I’ve realized that there are numerous opportunities available and a wealth of resources within the District to help achieve goals and gain experience.”

Even as we value the gifts they bring, we recognize that our role is to facilitate their development and introduce them to jobs and career fields that may be a good fit for their future. It’s a responsibility we take seriously, but we have an even deeper purpose.

No matter what departments they support — from Analytical Services to Finance to Information Technology — we want our interns to come away from their time at the Sewer District with a sincere appreciation for our public-service mission to protect human health and the environment, and our commitment to outstanding external and internal customer service.

Said Administrative & External Affairs intern Evan Johr, “I’ve learned how much of an impact NEORSD has on our regional natural resources. Many streams, rivers, and Lake Erie itself would not be as beautiful and healthy as they are without the constant work the District does to keep them that way.”
